The southern slopes and the calcareous & mineral-rich soil of the Voerregion are ideal for viticulture. That there is an increasing interest in this small wine area is evidenced by the fact that some new vineyards have been cultivated and existing vineyards have been expanded.
The wines of the Voerregion are particularly popular:
— The Pinot Blanc-Auxerrois 2010 from Domein Pietershof was voted as the best Belgian wine for the year 2012. In the category of sparkling wines Domein Pietershof has won a gold medal with its Crémant de Crindael 2011.
— The Chardonnay of Wijndomein Crutzberg recently won a silver medal at the ‘Mundus Vini’ in Germany. Remarkable for the very first harvest of this 2 ha. large wine estate.
— The Cuvée Silex red from Wijndomein Zwaeneberg won a silver International PIWI Wines medal in 2016.
These vineyards are all situated in a wonderful location with scenic views and are excellent for a guided tour with wine tasting.
